Caversham Wildlife Park report(1)

I am sorry not to write this blog so long time.

On August 9th, I went to Caversham Wildlife Park with the TCU group. I will write reports about there from today.

Tiger quoll (Dasyurus maculatus) is not big animal, but it is the largest carnivore mammal in mainland Australia. The situation that it eats a meat looked very beastly.

Blue-winged kookaburra (Dacelo leachii) was bigger and massiver than kingfishers. I wanted to see it.

Masked lapwings (Vanellus miles). One of them was warming its eggs. They might be the couple.

Next will be written tomorrow.

Kings Park

On August 16th, I went to Kings Park in Perth with the TCU group. There are three things that made this event interesting.

A big Boab tree in WA Botanical Garden

Firstly, I walked in the botanical garden and saw many plants. The most interesting species was Boab tree. It is a big tree with a very thick trunk.

Secondly, I listened to speech about aboriginal and tried an aboriginal dance. It was interesting. Aboriginal jacket made of kangaroo was furry.

Finally, I watched birds in the park. The species seen the most was Australian magpie. It is very different to Eurasian magpie. Eurasian magpie has long tail, but Australian magpie has normal tail.

I spent a wonderful time in Kings Park and saw some unique Australian things.

Cassowary

Cassowary (Southern cassowary, Casuarius casuarius) is a species of Australian flightless bird. It has black feather, red throat, and blue head and neck without feather. The most unique point is a big brown casque on its head. It is a second heaviest bird on the earth. The biggest record is 1.9m tall and 85 kg weight.

Cassowary in Perth Zoo

Cassowary lives in Indonesia, New Guinea, and northeastern Australia. It lives on the ground in tropical rainforests.

Cassowary eats fruits and small animals like insects. Its main dishes are fruits. It likes fruits. But it sometimes catch small animals.

Female cassowary is bigger and stronger than male. A female lays eggs, and a male takes care of them. It is very rare in birds.

Cassowary has blade-like claws on earth of its second toes. Its kick with them is very terrible. It is known as “the most dangerous bird in the world”.

My journey to Perth

I arrived at Australia from Japan!

I’m in Australia to study abroad.

Dawn sky seen in the plane to Melbourne
Cloud sea seen in the plane to Perth

First, I flew from Narita to Melbourne. Next, I flew to Perth. The view seen in both of the planes were very beautiful!

Rainbow lorikeets
Galahs

Australia is great! Species of birds are very different from Japan. There are many galahs and rainbow lorikeets around the village.

I think this journey becomes a great experience!
